History of Chandigarh
Chandigarh is the name of purity, cleanness,
and the most advanced city in india.The name of the city is derived from
Goddess of power known as Shri Chandika. Chandigarh is the
capital of Punjab and Haryana. Chandigarh is the only Indian city
to have been designed and planned by a single architect – Le Corbusier. Infact,
this was to be the first planned city of India. It was
built in 1953. It is administered by the Central Government and is hence
classified as an Union Territory. Chandigarh is famous for its wide roads and spacious
residential housings and is an excellent base for specialised sightseeing. Chandigarh
is surrounded by Shiwalik Hills.
IT Industry in Chandigarh
The Chandigarh Administration is focusing on promotion
of Information Technology (IT) industry which requires lesser space and
is also non polluting. Chandigarh through the Software Technology Parks of India
- STPI - (an autonomous Society under the Deptt. of Electronics, Govt. of India)
which has set up an earth station at Mohali for the proposed
Software Technology Park / Complex being set up by the Punjab Govt. About
10000 sq.ft. of space has been earmarked in the PEC campus for being rented out
to the desirous entrepreneurs at fixed rates.
